Guidelines for Bridesmaid Gowns
Following are some guidelines
to help you select bridesmaid gowns with the greatest of ease
.
When these steps are followed, the selection,
sizing, and delivery of gowns will be
worry-free!
1. Choose a style that complements the bridal gown, and if you have two or more attendants, choose a style that will flatter all body types. The newest trends offer a
greater variety of styles that are universally flattering.
2. It is beneficial for you to select a few styles and colors for your bridesmaids then let them choose from your selections. This will save you many hours of decision making
and frustration. Consider bringing one attendant with you to help you with your selections. Fewer choices make it much easier to come to a decision for the whole
party.
3. Look for stores that carry multiple new
options like selecting a gown that has 3 to
4 different neckline options, 2-3 different
lengths. And some designers offer 3-4 fabric
options. All these options for the same
style bridesmaid dress to complement the
bridal gown.
4. For out of town bridesmaids: Have
your bridesmaids get measured at a local
bridal salon. They will need to ask for their
bust, waist, and hip measurements.
5. All the bridesmaids’ gowns should be
ordered from the same store to ensure all
gowns come from the same dye lot
.
6. Sizing is always “by the book”...the
Designers’ book. Bridesmaids’ gowns are
not custom-made, but special ordered
according to the designers’ size charts. A
bridal consultant will go over the measurements
and size chart with you before a
size is selected. She will offer advice, but
leave the final decision to you. Most all
bridesmaid gowns will require some alterations.
We strongly recommend budgeting
for alterations.
7. If a person is over 5’8”, an extra length
charge from the designer may be necessary.
If the person is size 18 (in some cases 16)
or above, there may also be an extra size
charge from the designer.
8. Please advise your attendants that
dresses must usually be paid in full but
individual store policies will vary.
9. To assure the proper fit at their alteration
appointment, each bridesmaid will
need to bring the shoes and undergarments
she will be wearing with her gown.
Today’s busy bride should look for expedited
delivery of 4 weeks or less.
